It is a member of the International Science Council and thereby contributes to a global voice on science.
An International Congress in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) is held every four years in diverse locations. ICTAM spans fluid and solid mechanics, including dynamics, and promotes applied mechanics as a broad scientific field. The first Congress was held in Delft, the Netherlands in 1924.
The 26th International Congress of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics
25 – 30 Aug 2024
Daegu, South Korea
The International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) grew out of the Congresses and was founded in 1946 as an international non-governmental non-profit scientific organization. On 4 November 2022 it was incorporated as an Association with full legal status in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Dynamics has underpinned a number of new technologies over the past decade from air, sea and land vehicles to modern infrastructure and medical devices.
